Employees & Facilities: Malta Shipyards currently employ
1700 personnel. The workforce is experienced and well trained
in all the major trades. All of the permanent employees are
Maltese and nearly all of them are English speaking. Seven
drydocks, equipped with shore services and dockside cranes,
can accommodate vessels up to 300,000dwt. Afloat repairs are
carried out on the 2km of wharves available.

Reputation & References: The yards have a strong reputation
synonymous with quality, reliability, delivery and satisfied
customers. The order book, with much repeat business, is
based on owners' knowledge that vessels will be re-delivered
on time, on budget and to high quality standards.

Restructuring & Partnerships: The Malta Shipyards began
a restructuring process in 2001. The aims are to offer improved
efficiency and cost effectiveness to the key markets of
offshore and energy, conversion and commercial ship repair.
Strategic partnerships have been formed to broaden expertise
to offer specialised services to meet clients' needs. Surface
preparation, advanced coatings application and areas of
specialized engineering are included.

Engineering & Steel Fabrication: The Malta Shipyards have
gained extensive experience in the area of complex and heavy
steel structures. This includes the fabrication of container
cranes, helidecks and an FPSO flare-tower. Other offshore
experience includes the fabrication of several Single Point
Mooring buoys (SPM); the latest, during 2003, being for Bluewater.

Safety & Quality: During 2001 the Malta Shipyards at
the Cospicua Site, were awarded the British Safety Council
4 Star rating. In June 2002, the Shipyards joined forces
with the Swiss-based international - renowned Safety Company
- DuPont Safety Resources - to implement a major 3 year
safety improvement programme involving all levels of employees
throughout each business.

The
Malta Shipyards Quality Assurance System (QAS) covers all
the core processes for shiprepair, conversion and new construction
projects. The QAS is documented in a 3 tier system, namely,
the QA Manual, the Operating Procedures which cover all clauses
specified in ISO 9002, and Work Instructions. A team of quality
control inspectors ensures that workmanship standards in the
yard are in line with approved procedures, applicable rules
and regulations. |
