Company Profile
The Steel Fabrication operation of the Malta Shipyards was
set up in 1976.This site at Marsa, provides an excellent facility
for heavy steel fabrication, the construction of hulls, and
for the undertaking of other non-marine projects.
Experience
Since the commencement of activities in 1985, a variety
of projects have been undertaken. Several new buildings
were completed however, more recently the Marsa site has
been focusing on hull building and fabrication projects.
These
included several complex steel structures; a flare-tower,
a heli-pad and process deck for an FPSO conversion project
have been fabricated. Another offshore-related project has
been the fabrication of a series of Single Point Mooring
buoys for Bluewater of the Netherlands. The yard has also
been commissioned to undertake several non-marine related
work such as the fabrication of large Quayside Container
Cranes for export, large Water and Oil Storage Tanks, heavy
structural steel modification work for a power station and
other major steel fabrication projects.

Facilities
The facilities include a 290mX50mX6m graving dry-dock equipped
with three dockside cranes of 125T, 80T and 40T. There are
two main quays of a total length of 500m with 2X40T cranes
on one of the quays and 1X48T, 1X40T cranes on the other quay.
The main workshop, with a covered area of 30,000m2, comprises
a unit assembly hall, block assembly, panel line bay, plasma
and gas cutting machines and hydraulic presses up to 2000T.
Other workshops in the facility include a machine shop, a
joinery complex, and a plate/profile treatment line.

Force
This site can avail itself of the 1700 strong workforce
of the Malta Shipyards as required. A core of highly skilled
permanent employees provide the specialised skills required
to supply quality fabrication services.
