OIL TANKING

The oil terminal, one of the largest in the Mediterranean, also registered a significant improvement in performance to give a considerable fillip to the overall profitability of Malta Freeport. In 1995, two million tonnes of products were handled by Oiltanking (Malta) Ltd.

Operations focused on tank rental, but subsidiary activities such as blending, butanising, leading and the injection of additives also increased over the year. Oiltanking (Malta) Ltd. was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Dr. Edward Fenech Adami on 5th May 1995 in a ceremony which marked the completion of the first three phases of the oil facilities. The event was attended by key personnel from oil-tanking companies around the world. This was indicative of the importance attached to the Maltese project.

Undoubtely, the quality of service and reliability of the facilities are proving to be the factors that are most attractive at Oiltanking.

Currently, the total capacity of the oil terminal is some 360,000 cubic meters storing a wide range mineral oil products and chemicals. Oiltanking (Malta) Ltd. is set to expand its activities in the coming year in response to growing world demand for the free zone transhipment of oil-based products.
